A DURHAM lighting manufacturer is investing in the next generation of talent, as it welcomes a new apprentice to the team.
Artech Lighting is investing in the future of the business and has welcomed a new estimating apprentice, Josh Smith, 18, to its Durham HQ, supporting an increased client demand.
Josh spent the last two years completing diplomas in IT and E-Sports at New College Durham, before starting a new chapter studying Level 3 Business Administration with the leading lighting manufacturer.
Stepping on to the career ladder, Josh is now Artech’s sixth apprentice in the last 5 years as the business looks to tackle the skills gap and create a pathway for fulfilling careers in the lighting industry.
Josh said: “I’m really excited to be joining the Artech team and start my apprenticeship, with the opportunity of learning on the job and experiencing first-hand how the business operates.
“I’m looking forward to a successful future with Artech – everyone’s been so welcoming and it’s a really supportive environment to learn and work in.”
Josh will work closely with the design and estimating teams to build his skills across the different departments, putting his knowledge of IT systems into practice. He hopes to become a qualified lighting designer, completing his apprenticeship in 2027.
Gary Aisnworth, lighting design and estimating manager, said: “It’s great to see Josh settle into the role and support him to take the next steps in his career. We’re extremely passionate about supporting young people into skilled careers at Artech, helping them build the foundations they need to succeed.
“Josh has taken to the role straight away, developing his knowledge and skills from day one, he’s hardworking and keen to learn. It’s great to have him on board.”
