Liam Oudnie has been with Artech Lighting for just over two and a half years but is already an integral part of its team of specialists.

As Bid Manager his primary role is to deliver and oversee progress on submissions for work tenders, liaising directly with a host of customers. Liam is the first point of contact for many people contacting the company…

Coming into Artech in the summer of 2020 was a steep, but fantastic learning curve. I was encouraged to contribute ideas immediately, utilising the ideas and skills I’d developed while working in other industries. All in all, it’s been a fantastic experience.

I think one of the things I enjoy most is the product cycle – getting to see the raw materials arrive and then cut, shaped and developed into what eventually becomes important bespoke features in iconic buildings across the world.

We’re a business that doesn’t rest on its laurels – rather than stand back and admire our work, we move onto the next one, constantly upgrading and enhancing products, striving to increase efficiency. Artech never stands still, which makes it feel like I only started yesterday!

It seems like every project we deliver is another landmark development, but the ones that really stand out for me are all in Scotland, bizarrely. The FTI Building in Edinburgh, Perth City Hall, TopGolf in Glasgow and Edinburgh Central Library are all incredible projects that presented their own individual challenges but turned out to be genuinely breath-taking.

Right now, with energy prices high coupled with the drive toward net zero, efficiency is the watchword for clients. Artech made its name as a disrupter, mixing it with established lighting giants to supply products as good, if not better, than anything on the market, but for almost half the cost. Having secured a reputation for well-costed products, we’re now forging a fantastic name for energy saving products.

Our decarbonisation programme is seeing us save clients thousands by retrofitting energy-hungry, carbon-producing obsolete fluorescent tube fittings with leading-edge LED tech. Customers pay a fraction of the cost of new lighting but see a return on investment in less than a year, due to efficiency offered by LEDs and modern lighting controls.

It’s great to occasionally take a moment to look at the projects we have delivered and products we are creating and realise how far we have come in such a short space of time.

We have such a great team here at Artech Lighting and I can only see myself being here long term, as we continue to go from strength to strength. Despite all the success we have secured, I still feel relatively new to the industry, so my plan is to keep learning, working hard and growing my own skills and experience alongside the business as it develops.

I know that the future can only hold success for us both.
