Meet Lewis Cowley and George Barker – Artech’s latest new recruits.

Georgia is our new design engineer and Lewis business administration apprentice.

After studying at sixth form, Georgia began an apprenticeship that saw her working mainly in technical engineering for the R&D department of a firm in Redditch, Worcestershire, as she studied for an HNC in Manufacturing Engineering.

The 24-year-old worked her way up to Laboratory Support Engineer before leaving to relocate to the North East. Georgia said: “I applied for the role at Artech Lighting after researching local lighting manufacturers, as I wanted to use my experience in the lighting industry and continue my career in a challenging and interesting engineering role.

“I’m aiming to develop myself as an engineer in this new role and become a valuable and long-standing member of the growing Artech team.”

Lewis, 19, spent the last couple of years studying Criminology, Finance and Business Studies at Durham Sixth Form Centre, and is now at New College Durham, smashing his Level 3 Business Administration qualification out the park.

Lewis said: “The apprenticeship scheme allows me to continue learning while getting to know first-hand how the business works.

“After doing some research on Artech Lighting and getting an interview for the role, I could tell straight away that it was a perfect fit. It is an exciting, growing company with great ambitions that match my desire to succeed in business. Long term I hope to have a successful career in the lighting industry.”

Artech is passionate about helping people take that first step on the career ladder. It is supporting Lewis while he works towards passing his course and will continue to help while he studies for his LIA certificate, his next natural step.

Artech Lighting Director, Stuart Hylton, said: “We are really happy with our new recruits and they have fitted into our team perfectly. Artech is passionate about investing in young people and helping them develop their knowledge and skill as we benefit from their ideas and enthusiasm.

“Georgia and Lewis have started life at Artech incredibly well and will hopefully enjoy a long and fruitful career with us.”
